yes this issue deserves some attention. if the gok could rely on the
window manager to never give the gok "focus" there wouldn't be an issue
-- but it doesn't appear we can rely on that -- so we will have to
implement a work around such that we ignore focus events when it is the
gok itself getting focus.
i will start coding the work around shortly.
once the workaround is in place, the users should be able to set the variable as part of the login process as you suggest -- i'll keep you posted via the related bug in bugzilla.
