We're completing an evaluation of the switch devices on the market. The majority of the USB switches (or switch hubs) emulate mouse buttons (save those that also emulate keyboard keys). We are looking at this route for Solaris, and especially SunRay (which doesn't have a serial port). There are several software options we are exploring for getting these mouse/keyboard inputs - basically either using existing techniques for getting mouse/keyboard input, or use the XINPUT extension (in the hopes that these switches will be able to co-exist with the standard keyboard/mouse combination).
I hope we'll have these issues nailed down in the next couple of weeks...
